Karen Divine Medium: Photography 35 Barcelona Drive Boulder, CO 80303 303-499-9684 email: kdivineboulder@yahoo.com My current work began after attending a series of digital Photoshop classes with the Santa Fe Workshops. I realized with this program I was able to create the pictures I imagined by using my photographic images as a palette: pulling colors, textures, subtle forms and text onto a blank page. They no longer belonged to the "classical" photographic world but developed into an entirely new "painting". This series began as a way to observe in a visual way what was occurring in my life. Earlier images were primarily about choosing colors and textures to express this but my current work now includes more symbolism, a reflection of feelings perhaps unreachable by words. I don't know in advance what I will create but focus on being still as I work the forms and textures. "The time will come, when with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the others welcome…"as a poem from Derek Walcott expresses beautifully the results of a moment of revealing truth and acceptance. To be able to create that truth into a visual representation is an opportunity I cherish. All my images are created using my photographs. Images may build upon the next, flattening a final story and using parts of it for another series. I also use emulsion slide transfers and earlier black and white prints. Occasionally I will add color or texture from a monoprint. Most of these images were shot using a Canon EOS 10D and printed on an Epson 2400. ![]()
