Michael Villanueva, a Gunnison Valley native, spent many of his childhood years in Crested Butte, were he currently resides. At the age of 22, Michael began his woodworking education at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO. There he studied the art of figurative sculpture and curvilinear woodworking and assisted teaching other workshops.

His natural gift and regard for the life of wood has drawn many return clients and has earned him respect from his colleagues. Although the shop he works in is full of large machinery, if you enter his bench room you will notice the handmade planes, Japanese saws and chisels that he uses daily. The Japanese and Swedish influences in his work come from his travels and schooling, which gave him the advanced knowledge and special understanding of fine woodcraft to return to Crested Butte and advance his work to an entirely different level.
