Bill grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma where at fourteen a teacher told his parents she believed he was talented artistically and they enrolled him in a year long oil painting class given by a local artist. It was at this time he discovered a passion for painting. In high school he took every art course available, and later a few basic art courses in college. He describes his style of painting as mostly self taught, intuitive and leaning toward Realistic Impressionism. 

Bill moved to Gunnison in 1986 and his paintings are a reflection of his long relationship with the natural beauty and history of the Gunnison country. He is an avid outdoorsman and spends hours exploring the Gunnison area seeking subjects and scenes that move him to capture on canvas.
